![]() ![]() Especially since good bench or long range form is not really compatible with large magazine capacity and that AR feature is lost. If a longer than 16” barrel or heavier than relatively light barrel profile is called for I’d switch platforms to a bolt rifle. For the same reason, I only leave no magnification red dot sights on my ARs, though I have one low power variable scope in a QD Mount for my 16”, but it collects dust. I love the AR for the light, handy 16” carbine or short barrel rifle it should, imo, be. Imo, only in bench paper punching and long range steel and paper shooting and other “set piece” situations would a heavier profile barrel be of any benefit, and then it ought to be fluted to reduce weight as well as increase surface area. ![]() If your AR is going to be carried or used dynamically lighter is always better, imo. ![]()
